Enable and work with the ruler guides

How to show, hide, create, move, copy, and delete ruler guides in the Creative Studio to organize your page layout.

Written by David Aslanyan

Ruler guides in Creative Studio help you organize content on the publication page efficiently. You can create guides on one page, then copy and paste them across other pages to maintain a consistent layout.

Two kinds of ruler guides are available:

  1. Page guides — appear only on the single-spread page where you create them.

  2. Spread guides — span the entire double-spread page and the editing area.

Show or hide ruler guides

  1. Click the guide tool at the top-left corner of the working area to show guides.

  2. Place your pointer on the vertical or horizontal ruler.

  3. Drag to the desired position on the page.

  4. Click the guide tool again to hide guides.

Select and move ruler guides

Unselected guides appear light blue; selected guides appear dark blue. When a guide is selected, the X and Y axis input fields activate.

  • Enter coordinates manually to move a guide to a precise position.

  • Click a guide to select it, then drag to reposition it.

  • Use arrow keys to nudge a selected guide up, down, left, or right.

  • To select multiple guides, drag a selection rectangle over them, or hold Shift and click each guide.

Working with ruler guides

  • Cut: Select guides and press Ctrl+X (Windows) or Cmd ⌘+X (Mac).

  • Copy: Press Ctrl+C (Windows) or Cmd ⌘+C (Mac), then paste with Ctrl+V / Cmd ⌘+V.

  • Apply to all pages: Create guides on one page, select all of them, copy, then paste on each other page.

  • Delete a single guide: Select it and press Delete.

  • Delete multiple guides: Hold Shift, select the guides you want to remove, then press Delete.
