Place a Vimeo video in a publication

How to embed a Vimeo video in a publication page, including handling different Vimeo privacy settings.

Written by David Aslanyan

You can embed Vimeo videos in your publications. Vimeo's privacy settings affect how the video behaves in your publication, so review the options below before adding your video.

We recommend setting the video to Public privacy on Vimeo for the simplest setup. If your video has a different setting, use the corresponding approach below.

Privacy settings

  1. Private: Copy the URL that contains the privacy access token from Vimeo's Share link tool and paste it into the Vimeo properties popup.

  2. Password: Copy the URL from the Share link tool and paste it into the Vimeo properties popup. Readers will see a black screen and be prompted to enter the password you provide them.

  1. Hide from Vimeo: The video is inaccessible on Vimeo but can still be embedded anywhere.

Embedding privacy

Also check the Embedding setting on your Vimeo video:

  • Anywhere: Lets you embed the video everywhere.

  • Nowhere: Restricts embedding on any website.

  • Specific domains: Lets you embed on a chosen website. If you select this option, add joomag.com to allow embedding in Joomag.

Note: In some cases a privacy access token is not generated in the URL, which prevents the video from displaying. See Getting a privacy access token for your Vimeo URL for steps to resolve this.

Place the video

Once you have the video URL:

  1. Open the publication page in Edit mode.

  2. Click the Vimeo icon on the left toolbar.

  3. Paste your link into the popup.

  4. Move the video to the desired position and drag the corners to resize.

  5. Save the page.
