Anti-Spam guide for email marketing

Anti-spam guidelines for sending compliant email campaigns with Joomag.

Written by Justina Markovic

Joomag provides email marketing services so publishers can promote publications and distribute content. However, your emails may be marked as spam if you don't follow best practices.

Spam (also known as junk email) is an unsolicited bulk message sent through email, which may include phishing links from risky websites.

When sending email campaigns, you must comply with the CAN-SPAM Act of the USA, even if your business is outside the US.

Key points from the CAN-SPAM Act:

1. Don't be misleading with your header information. From and Reply-to addresses must be authentic and valid.

2. Do not use deceptive subject lines. The subject must accurately reflect the email content.

3. If the email includes an advertisement, explicitly inform the customer.

4. Your physical address or P.O. box must be visible to recipients.

5. Make it easy for recipients to opt out or unsubscribe. The unsubscribe link must be a one-click link that remains valid for 30 days.

6. Honor opt-out requests promptly, within a maximum of 10 working days.

7. If you hire another company to handle your email marketing, you remain responsible for what is done on your behalf.

Joomag provides the necessary tools to help you comply with these requirements. Learn more about mass mailing and the Anti-Spam Guide on our blog.
